THE PROBLEM
Since they were founded in the mid-60s, släpis has grown steadily and become a leader in Sweden in spare parts for trucks and trailers.
The business is based on a large central warehouse in Ängelholm, and a number of stores - or depots , as they are also called - out in the country. The central warehouse is responsible for filling the stores. The head office was previously located in Stockholm, but this was later moved to Ängelholm, which was practical as the proximity to the European suppliers increased.
Jannie Eklund has been working as a buyer at Släpis for several years, and she says that the logistics with the central warehouse and the various stores eventually became too time-consuming.
- The store replenishment took a very long time, so we started looking for a system that could streamline that task. Our primary goal was to reduce time consumption for the task, but we also wanted to increase stock availability and we aimed to achieve all this with as little effort as possible to procure the products needed where, when, and in what quantity.
THE SOLUTION
Släpis got quotes from various suppliers for inventory management system, where the requirement was that they could deal with the problem of a central warehouse and local shops. After evaluating a number of different suppliers, the assessment was made that SOLO was the solution that could best handle the current problem.
- SOLO helps us calculate order points and quantity. We enter a few parameters into the system, and based on that, SOLO calculates the optimal storage. With the help of SOLO, we have gained a broader picture than we got with the previous business system, partly due to the fact that the history goes back further. Previously, we could only see the total / product; now we can instead see sales / month for a whole year back. Clarity is something I think is characteristic of SOLO. And even though it is an advanced system, it was very easy to learn.
THE VALUE SOLO ADDS
The goal of reducing working hours that was devoted to handling store replenishment has been achieved by far. Recently, external purchases have also begun in SOLO, and even there there are clear improvements in the form of reduced working hours.
- Now there are several of us who work with purchasing, but for my own part I would appreciate that I have saved about 45 minutes per day. It may sound insignificant, but if we knock it out in a month, it will become clearer. About 15 hours every month I can now spend on other things, because SOLO does the work for me. Then think about what the time savings will be in one year! SOLO has definitely helped us save time.
